WESM 91.3 FM adds flagship program from WYPR

PRINCESS ANNE — WESM 91.3 FM will begin a new weekly schedule Monday, June 29 in a move to deliver programming that has a broader global focus and coverage of issues that affect the state.
WESM is partnering with WYPR 88.1 in Baltimore to carry its flagship newsmagazine “Maryland Morning with Sheilah Kast.” The hour-long program will be simulcast on the Princess Anne-based NPR member station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. via a live feed from Baltimore, expanding WESM’s morning news coverage.
The program covers the state “from the Atlantic to the Appalachians probing beyond the news headlines, unraveling local implications of national news stories and exploring the science, history, arts and culture of Maryland.”
“We are grateful that WYPR has generously partnered with us to carry the ‘Maryland Morning’ program,” said Stephen Williams, WESM’s general manager. “We believe it will serve our audiences within the state, as well as the greater region’s need for thoughtful and relevant news programming. It also fits more closely with the goal of the station’s host institution, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, to help foster globally-competent citizens.”

UMES hosts wind energy seminar

PRINCESS ANNE — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore hosts a wind energy seminar Thursday, June 18 at 1 p.m. in the Richard A. Henson Center, room 1112.
David Phillippi, an engineer with Princeton Energy Resources International, presents, “Introduction to UMES Wind Energy: Resource Assessment.” Topics covered include: the new met tower, instrumentation, data analysis, the WindPRO model and case studies.

Art Shell tourney slated for June 10 at Great Hope

PRINCESS ANNE — The Art Shell UMES Invitational gets underway June 10 with an 8 a.m. tee off at Great Hope Golf Course in Westover, Md. Local golfers can join the pro football Hall of Famer and UMES alumnus in raising funds for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s athletic and PGA Golf Management programs.

Free UMES Jazz Ensemble Concert with guest saxophonist Mark Gross

PRINCES ANNE — Whether you’re celebrating the end of tax season or a long-awaited warm up to the weather, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Jazz Ensemble Spring Concert might be just what you need.
Free and open to the public, the event takes place April 15 at 7 p.m. in the Ella Fitzgerald Center for the Performing Arts on the UMES campus.
Baltimore-born alto saxophonist Mark Gross will join the university’s jazz ensemble on stage performing “some hard-hitting jazz music,” said Brian Perez, music coordinator at UMES. Gross will also present a master class for musicians of all instruments from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

UMES presents Spring Choral Fest

PRINCESS ANNE — After a record-breaking winter, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Concert Choir lifts its voices in song welcoming a much-needed spring to the Shore on April 12.
The concert takes place at 4 p.m. in the Ella Fitzgerald Center for the Performing Arts. The UMES Concert Choir will be joined by Dr. Patricia Saunders Nixon, a guest soprano soloist from Norfolk, Va., and the Capriccio Strings of Hampton Roads. Saunders Nixon has performed with the Virginia Opera Association and the Virginia Symphony Pops among other accolades.
