Man charged with arson, burglary for fire at Wilson Landing

PRINCESS ANNE – Deputy State Fire Marshals charged Jamar Donte Pittman, 26, with multiple arson related charges stemming from a domestic incident that originally began on January 29th at a residence at 30556 Bardwell Drive, Wilson Landing.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on January 30, 2016, Pittman was observed outside the residence prior to a fire being observed on the front porch of the dwelling. Nearly ten firefighters responded to the one alarm blaze from Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Department and quickly controlled the fire within five minutes after arrival on the scene. Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set on the front porch by Pittman when he used an ignitable liquid and lit a comforter draped over the hand rail of the porch. He was not able to be located immediately and an arrest warrant was obtained. The fire caused approximately $550 in damage to the structure and contents.

The Maryland State Police Fugitive Task Force took Pittman into custody without incident Jan. 31. He was transported to the Somerset County Detention Center where he remains on a $350,000 bond. He was charged with: 1st Degree Arson, 2nd Degree Arson, 2nd Degree Burglary, 2nd Degree Attempted Assault, 4th Degree Burglary, Reckless Endangerment, 2 nd Degree Malicious Burning, and Malicious Destruction of Property. If found guilty of all charges, Pittman faces a penalty of up to 84 years imprisonment and/or $88,000 in fines for these offenses.
