Johnny Shelton served as chaplain of the Super Bowl XL in Detroit, was a youth minister, member of the National PTA, National Middle School Association, National College Football Foundation, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., National Fatherhood Initiative, and NFL Alumni.

A native of the Midwest, he attended Southeast Missouri State University where he majored in criminal law and was captain of the football team. He signed an NFL contract as a defensive back with the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers. He also spent time in training camp with the Los Angeles Raiders and Seattle Seahawks.

Free agency made it difficult to make a final roster so Johnny then, began a career with Procter and Gamble until September of 2004 when he was called into full- time ministry as Area Director for Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Greensboro, N.C., and chaplain of Elon University’s football team. He then served as chaplain for the Virginia Tech football team from 2007-2013.

Now with the Baltimore Ravens, he is married to his college sweetheart Thlitha, and they have two adult children Shawnda’ and Shawnta’.

The County Times is delivered weekly to Crisfield and the surrounding Somerset County region.
