Harpist to play at Crisfield Wesleyan Church

CSC Joy SlavensCRISFIELD — Joy Slavens will be in concert playing her harp at the 6 p.m. Sunday service Feb. 22 at Crisfield Wesleyan Church on Lawsonia Road. A Laurel area resident, Mrs. Slavens teaches over 40 students in piano and harp and is currently the pianist and assistant music director at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Seaford.

At her church she leads a harp ensemble called Expressions of Joy and performs often for churches, weddings, funerals and special occasions.

Classical compositions and inspirational music have become her main focus. Mrs. Slavens loves to create and perform her own arrangements of new and known music. As a composer, she has published a harp solo “One Tiny Light” as well as a choral anthem by the same title. She recently published a collection of Christmas selections for beginner harp students called Joy at Christmas.

Mrs. Slavens continues to study under harpist Rebecca Smith of Crofton. She and her husband Tom are the parents of two sons, Christopher and Scott. The public is welcome to attend Sunday’s service, call Wanda Tyler at 410-968-2966 for more information.
