Crisfield Church of God welcomes new interim pastor

CRISFIELD — The Church of God DelMarVa-DC Regional Administrative Bishop, M. Darrell Rice, has appointed the Rev. John W. Thorne as Interim Pastor for the Crisfield Church of God. He succeeds Pastors Harvey and Alana Tyler who were honored at his retirement on Sept. 11.

 

Rev. Thorne has served as Senior Pastor for the last 18 years at Chincoteague Church of God. Originally from Tangier Island, he began evangelizing in 1980 and served as an Associate Pastor in Virginia, then moved to Japan where he served in the Church of God to the military from 1988-1994.

 

Upon returning to the states he served in Baltimore, pastoring at Essex Church of from 1994-1998, before taking the position in Chincoteague.


 

Rev. Thorne is married to the former Beverly Marshall, also a Tangier native. They have two children, April and Jonathan, son-in-law Chris Thornton and granddaughter Brittany.

 

Church members invite the community to welcome Pastor Thorne and his wife to Crisfield, and see what God has planned for the future. The church is located at 134 Maryland Avenue and Sundays start at 10 a.m. with Sunday School followed by the worship service at 11. There also is a 6 p.m. service on Sunday, and a Wednesday Bible Study at 7 for adults along with Seven-Up Youth (ages 5-9) in the Sunday School Annex.
